Inauguration School Bus

Just after the assembly for the start of the second term, the new school bus was inaugurated. Mr. Weisser, deputy head of school, blessed the new bus with lots of sparkling Ambo water just before the bus went on its first mission to take all students up to Yeka-Mountain where they went hiking.

Carnival

Every year, the Kindergarten and school celebrate carnival with fantastic costumes, funny games, a not so healthy breakfast and a wild party all over the school compound. At some point during the morning, you can see the dressed up elementary school children doing the traditional Polonaise dance on the school compound.

Holocaust Memorial Day

Every year on January 26th, the UN is officially celebrating the Holocaust Memorial Day. Our students of grade 9 to 11 have been invited to take part in the ceremony at UNECA. Focuses of this year’s memorial were diplomats who have protested against the persecution of Jews by the National Socialists through hiding Jews or helping them to escape. Representatives of eight different countries presented videos of saviours who are these days honoured as “Righteous among the Nations" by Israel.

First Aid Classes

Our new school nurse Ms. Lydia Stockmanns has offered a total of three first aid classes for teachers and staff. The course was highly appreciated by everybody. It is very important to refresh one’s own first aid knowledge on a yearly basis since in emergencies fast help cannot always be guaranteed in Ethiopia. Ms. Stockmanns will also offer first aid classes for students in higher grades in the near future.

International Sports Festival

At the sports ground of the international school the track and field competition of the ICS took place this year again. A group of students from DBSAA decided to take the chance to compete with the other schools and show their athletics skills. They had trained weeks in advance and it should pay out. Even though quite a few students got sick the last minute, our team was able to reach some great results. Congratulations to all of them!

Police at the Kiga

Children in the orange group have worked on the topic „police“ for a whole week. Lots of parents helped out with crafting and all kids learned about the tasks and responsibilities of police work and how to behave while in traffic on the street. Big highlight of the week was the visit of the local police with their police car and motorcycle.

Hiking Day Primary School

Traditionally all students go on a hiking day on the last day of the first school term. Also this year, we were very lucky with good weather and all kids and teachers had lots of fun on the Yeka-Mountain in Kebena.

Nami – Party

All kids in the afternoon care are celebrating in party before each holiday. Students don’t have to work on homework anymore and can play all afternoon long together with the supervisors. Everybody has a lot of fun and is also enjoying delicious cakes and soft drinks.
