On 15.03.25, the German Embassy School Addis Ababa (DBSAA) opened its doors to guests from near and far – but this year’s traditional open day was something very special. The occasion was the 70th anniversary of the school, which was celebrated with a moving anniversary party. Students, parents, teachers, alumni and numerous guests of honor gathered to celebrate this significant milestone. After the DBSAA departments had showcased various presentations from their respective areas to interested guests during the ‘Open Day’ in the morning, the official ceremony began with ceremonial speeches in which the school’s long history and its significance for German-Ethiopian relations were honored. The German ambassador, the principal of the DBSAA and long-time companions of the school emphasized the role of the DBSAA as a bridge between cultures and as an excellent educational institution. Particularly moving was the contribution of a former student, who recounted her memories and formative experiences at the school. A wide selection of international and Ethiopian specialties also provided culinary delights. All guests on this special day enjoyed an exuberant and memorable afternoon with the entire school community. The anniversary celebration was not only a review of an eventful history, but also a cheerful look forward to what is yet to come. The DBSAA will remain a place of learning, friendship and cultural connection for decades to come.
At the beginning of March, the SMV organized an entertaining talent show that showcased the diversity and creativity of students from different schools in Addis Ababa. The audience was treated to delicious food and the sunny weather contributed to the pleasant atmosphere. In addition to the talent show, there were also numerous activities for the younger guests, making the day an all-round successful experience. First place went to an impressive circus act that amazed the audience with its performance. Second place went to the Feven group with a touching performance that won the hearts of the audience. Third place went to Nati, a talented singer who impressed the audience with a song he had written himself.Overall, the Talent Show was a complete success and a wonderful example of the creativity and commitment of the students in Addis Ababa and the organizational skills of the SMV.
