School’ s out - and now what?

To prepare for the time after graduation, the study and career counselling service advises and informs pupils in grades 9 to 12. The aim is to attract young people in grades 9 to 12 to study or vocational training in Germany and prepare them for the time after school.

The counselling concept is based on three pillars:

Company explorations and internships

Information and advisory events

Individual consultation

What does the career and study guidance at the DBSAA look like?

  • Application training in the subjects German, social studies and in grade 9 and 10
  • Work with the career choice pass (Berufswahlpass) from grade 9
  • Career and study guidance week every two years from grade 9 with representatives of the Federal Employment Agency
  • Information and advice on study opportunities in Germany by the DAAD in grades 10 - 12
  • Parents' evening for career and study guidance in cooperation with the DAAD
  • Presentation of internships by representatives of the companies or organisations
  • Exchange of experience with last year's graduates of the internship
  • Preparation day "social internship" - visit of possible internship places for the social internship
  • Two-week work placement and visit to the workplace by the supervising teacher (March)
  • Presentation of the work of GIZ - project visit and "Career - Speed dating" in classes 9. and 10
  • Presentation of the work of the German Embassy - training, study opportunities and career in the Foreign Service
  • Annual participation in education fairs of North American universities and partner schools
  • Study trip to Germany every two years - the next one takes place in April 2020 - for grades 10 and 11
  • Social internship in class 10 (June)
