St. Nicholas Day at DBSAA – A Visit Filled with Joy and Wonder

This year’s St. Nicholas Day, as every year, brought a very special guest to the German Embassy School Addis Abeba: St. Nicholas himself! Dressed in his traditional red coat and white beard, he visited both the Kindergarten and the Primary School, bringing excitement, laughter, and bright eyes wherever he went. The children had prepared beautiful performances to welcome him. With confidence and enthusiasm, the children stepped forward to share their performances, and St. Nicholas listened and watched attentively, praising their wonderful efforts and joyful spirit. Of course, St. Nicholas did not come empty-handed. After the performances, each child received a small goodie bag as a token of appreciation for their participation and excitement. The children accepted their gifts proudly and with great delight. With festively decorated classrooms, warm candlelight, and thoughtful preparation by the teachers, St. Nicholas Day at DBSAA became a truly magical experience. It was a morning filled with joy, wonder, and a shared festive spirit — a beautiful way to begin the Advent season.

Kreative Kostüme und fröhliche Stimmung – Die Grundschule feiert ihre Kostümparty an der DBSAA

On the 16th October, the primary school students of the German Embassy School Addis Ababa celebrated a cheerful costume party, organized by the Student Council (SMV). From the moment they entered the decorated gym, excitement filled the air: colorful balloons, lively music, and children dressed in imaginative costumes everywhere. With great enthusiasm, the SMV had prepared various games and activity stations that brought plenty of fun and laughter. A particular favorite was the can toss, which required precision and focus. Another highlight was the game “Pin the Tail on the Donkey”, where children were blindfolded, spun around, and tried to place a small pin on a picture – accompanied by laughter and cheers from their classmates. The music playing in the background created a cheerful atmosphere, with happy faces and creative costumes all around. By the end of the afternoon, everyone agreed: the costume party was a great success! Thanks to the SMV’s dedication and the children’s joyful participation, it turned into a wonderful day full of fun, energy, and togetherness.

Ein Tag voller Farben, Klänge und Begegnungen – der Deutsch-Äthiopische Begegnungstag an der DBSAA

Last Thursday, the campus of the German Embassy School Addis Ababa transformed into a place of lived diversity and cultural curiosity. During the German-Ethiopian Cultural Exchange Day, everything revolved around togetherness, creativity, and cultural exchange. Already in the morning, the schoolyard and classrooms were filled with lively activity: students of all grade levels took part in various projects that combined German and Ethiopian traditions in exciting ways. Whether pottery, dyeing, crafts, dancing, or cooking – everywhere there was experimenting, laughing, creating, and marveling. In the pottery workshop, artistic vessels and figures were created, while in the dyeing corner, brightly colored fabrics shone with natural pigments, and birdhouses were built in the crafts area. The delicious aroma from the school kitchen filled the entire building – students and teachers cooked traditional Ethiopian and German dishes together, tasted them, and proudly presented the results. A special highlight of the day was the final celebration with the entire school community, where the project results were showcased and parents proudly admired their children’s creations. Through a colorful exhibition, musical performances, and culinary delights, the students demonstrated what they had learned and achieved. The Cultural Exchange Day was more than just a project day – it was a vibrant symbol of how enriching cultural diversity can be and how strong a united community truly is.
