KIDUS the first DBSAA student to be awarded to participate in TU9- ING week

Report from Kidus

For five days I had the opportunity to participate in the virtual TU9 week this year. “Who” or “What does TU9 mean? and “What is behind a TU9 week? The term TU9 is an abbreviation for the “Technische Universität 9”. As in the name, the TU9 consists of the nine technical universities in Germany, which have formed a union.

Each year, these universities organise a project for the highest-performing students from schools abroad who are interested in science. The aim is to give them the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of a university and to gain an insight into university life. This event is called the TU9 Week.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the TU9 week could not take place in its traditional form this year. The alternative was a virtual event. In the beginning I felt it was a pity that I couldn’t travel abroad, because I thought that virtual experiences don’t have the same effect as real experiences.
However, I was wrong, because if the TU9 week had taken place at the site, I would not have had the chance to get to know all the students involved, but only some of them. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to get to know all the technical universities. I was introduced to two of them so well that I had the feeling of being there. The two universities, the RWTH Aachen and the Technische Universität Darmstadt, had everything a university should have and much more.

A history with students who changed the world, a wide range of study opportunities and a very good atmosphere for studying. There were also activities and groups that were outside the curriculum. The range of activities starts with sports like Quidditch and goes further to the possibility of travelling abroad. I personally found the project “Engineer without Borders” very exciting, because this project is about travelling to countries that have no water or electricity, for example, and then supporting and equipping them with the necessary things. In the end, TU9 Week helped me to visualise my course of studies and my future. Through it I met new people who are not so easy to forget and whom I can now proudly call my friends. It was a great week, which I will never forget and I am proud that I was able to experience this.
