In a dazzling display of talent and creativity, students, parents, teachers, and staff of the German Embassy School in Addis Ababa converged on the soccer field on February 3, 2024 for a remarkable talent show organized by two exceptional students, Dagim Zinnahbitu and Natnael Bereded. With an array of performances ranging from short plays to singing, dancing, beatboxing, and even unicycling, the audience was captivated by the wealth of hidden talents showcased on stage. Dagim and Natnael, the masterminds behind the event, had envisioned an attendance of 300 to 400 people. While the actual turnout surpassed 250 attendees, the event was deemed a resounding success, defying initial skepticism from some teachers. Both Dagim and Natnael proudly embrace their identity as “risk-takers,” having turned their ambitious vision into a reality. The highlight of the evening was the Ghion Dance Group, whose electrifying performances earned them the top prize from a generous pool of 25,000 ETB. Their seamless blend of humor, sketches, and mesmerizing dance moves left the audience spellbound. Behind the scenes, a panel of carefully selected judges provided fair and professional feedback to the performers. Renowned singer Yohana Sahle, alongside host Melena Abraham, known as Milu, and the school’s very own Pascal, who also showcases his reggae skills under the alias Evared, lent their expertise to ensure a thorough evaluation of each act. The talent show was a collaborative effort, organized in tandem with the student council, with approximately 15 other students lending their support in the planning and execution of the event. In addition to the captivating performances, attendees had the opportunity to indulge in various treats from six vendors offering a range of delights, including ice cream, burgers, hot dogs, cakes, and healthier options such as fresh fruit juices. Despite an initial budget of 20,000 ETB, the event managed to exceed expectations by raising a staggering 130,000 ETB, a testament to the overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the school community. Looking ahead, Dagim and Natnael are already contemplating their next endeavor—a bazaar scheduled for the end of March. With their track record of success and penchant for innovation, it’s certain to be another event to remember. In an endeavor to foster cultural understanding and global connections, on January 28, 2024, four exchange students from Konrad-Adenauer-Gymnasium in Langenfeld embarked on a transformative three-week exchange program at the German Embassy School Addis Ababa (DBSAA). This initiative not only provided them with a unique educational opportunity but also enriched their perspectives through immersion in a different cultural milieu. During their stay, the students actively engaged with the 9th and 10th graders at DBSAA, forging bonds and sharing experiences. Their time together was filled with numerous captivating excursions, each offering glimpses into Ethiopia’s rich heritage and vibrant contemporary life. A standout moment of their exchange program was a visit to the German Embassy in Addis Ababa, where they were graciously hosted by the Ambassador. The reception held at his residence epitomized diplomatic hospitality, offering the students a firsthand experience of international relations and diplomacy. Following the reception, the exchange students, accompanied by representatives from the consular section, cultural officer, and a delegate from the Department for Refugees and Migration, convened at the new clubhouse. Over a shared breakfast, they engaged in lively discussions and exchanged perspectives on diverse topics, ranging from cultural nuances to global issues. On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the German Embassy School Addis Ababa warmly welcomed the entire school community and prospective members to its much-anticipated ‘Open Day’ event. This vibrant occasion provided a comprehensive and enlightening experience for attendees of all ages, offering a glimpse into the unique ethos and educational excellence that define the DBSAA community. The ‘Open Day’ commenced with an immersive journey into the daily rhythm of the school, as visitors observed firsthand the dynamic learning environment across various classrooms. From interactive lessons to engaging discussions, guests had the opportunity to witness the school’s commitment to fostering academic growth and personal development at every level. In the kindergarten section, participants were invited to partake in a range of activities, fostering meaningful interactions between current students and prospective members of the DBSAA family. Following the morning session, students took center stage, showcasing the diverse facets of DBSAA through an array of captivating presentations and interactive experiences. Following the high spirits of the Kindergarten Sports Festival, the excitement continued as elementary students from grades 1 to 4 took center stage at their own Sports Festival. Nearly a hundred eager participants, representing the vibrant energy of our school community, showcased their athleticism and teamwork in a series of exhilarating events. From the adrenaline rush of the 100-meter dash to the graceful leaps of the long jump, and the impressive displays of strength in the shot put, every moment was filled with excitement and anticipation. The field buzzed with energy as students cheered on their classmates, celebrating each triumph and encouraging one another with boundless enthusiasm. The air was thick with the competitive spirit, yet the emphasis remained on fun and participation. Regardless of the outcome, each participant received applause and recognition for their efforts, fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among the young athletes. As the festival came to an end, the echoes of laughter and cheers lingered, a testament to the joy and camaraderie shared on this memorable day of athletic prowess and community bonding. The Elementary Sports Festival not only showcased the talent and dedication of our students but also served as a reminder of the importance of teamwork and friendship in our school community.

On 16.02.24, the children from the DBSAA kindergarten and elementary school came together to celebrate a vibrant carnival party. The children appeared in many creative costumes and the atmosphere was great. There was a lot of dancing and laughing and the students and teachers enjoyed the cheerful atmosphere to the fullest. After the children had let off steam on the dance floor, there was a typical German carnival treat ‘Krapfen’, a kind of doughnut filled with jam. The carnival party was once again a huge success this year and the DBSAA children went home with smiling faces.
